One-on-one coaching for golfers ready to play the best golf of their lives.
Meet Michael Knight
I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, where I grew up loving hockey, snowboarding, and the outdoors. From the ages of five to ten, I sailed around the world with my parents and sister, and discovered how much I enjoy independent pursuits. At 15, after playing Midget AAA hockey, I left the sport to pursue my passion for golf: an individual outdoor sport with new courses to explore and new challenges to overcome, and one I could practise on my own. Snowboarding holds a similar appeal, and because the two fall in opposite seasons, I get to enjoy both. Moving to British Columbia 12 years ago was an easy choice, since I can golf year-round with the mountains close by. I lived first in Whistler, then Squamish, and now call Port Moody home.
Coaching philosophy
My coaching approach is tailored to each student’s goals, needs, and aspirations. I help players trust their instincts and intuition so they can swing athletically with minimal mental clutter. The five fundamentals (grip, stance, alignment, posture, and ball position) are essential; once a player understands and consistently applies them, they can stop getting in their own way and play their best golf.
Most swing flaws stem from weaknesses in one or more of these areas, leading to poor impact conditions and compensations that create inconsistency. Lasting improvement begins when a player’s perception matches reality. Golf is a sport and should be approached athletically, as trying to control every movement often creates tension and restriction. To perform at your best, understand your fundamentals and tendencies, then trust your instincts and play freely.
